Our Programs

Five interconnected pillars addressing the root causes of vulnerability in Zambia's communities.

📚

Education

Opening doors to learning

Many widows, especially those in rural areas, struggle to provide for their children's education due to extreme poverty. Dropout rates are alarmingly high, depriving children of the opportunities they deserve.

  • Donation of learning materials — textbooks, exercise books, pens and stationery
  • Payment of school fees for orphaned and vulnerable children
  • Support for children in rural areas whose parents cannot afford education costs
  • Distribution of uniforms to ensure children can attend school with dignity

Health

Healthy communities, stronger futures

Access to healthcare remains a major challenge for widows and orphaned children. Without proper health support, families remain trapped in cycles of illness and poverty.

  • Improve access to healthcare services for vulnerable children and widows
  • Provide sexual reproductive health training to girls in schools
  • Conduct awareness raising on TB, HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases
  • Connect families to available government and NGO health services
🌿

Agriculture

Growing food security from the ground up

Food insecurity affects a large number of the families we serve. Widows heading households often lack the means to consistently feed their children and themselves.

  • Improve access to food for vulnerable children and women in rural and peri-urban areas
  • Poultry rearing projects to generate income and food for widows
  • Farm product growing for household consumption and community sale
  • Training in sustainable agricultural practices

Socioeconomic Empowerment

Skills for sustainable livelihoods

Dependency on donor support alone is not sustainable. UWAOC invests in building the skills of widows and guardians to generate their own income and provide for their families.

  • Skill training and knowledge transfer for widows and vulnerable children
  • Capacity building training for community workers in service delivery
  • Entrepreneurship training for local business women and the youth
  • Interest-free micro-loans to support income-generating activities (handicrafts etc.)

Rehabilitation & Social Work

Restoring hope, changing paths

Young people growing up without proper care are vulnerable to crime and negative behaviors. UWAOC targets the root causes by providing stable, supportive environments.

  • Provide rehabilitation support services for juveniles
  • Behavioral change initiatives for at-risk youth in the community
  • Psychosocial counseling and emotional support for children and widows
  • Community-based mentorship and family strengthening programs
